Whether you or your child have a dream to be a piano virtuoso, a rock musician, or just want to enjoy entertaining your friends, Zoey Lotter can help make that dream a reality. She teaches each of her students to appreciate, understand, and have fun with music through various teaching methods including piano practice, music theory, various instruments and other media.


For every lesson, Zoey pays special attention to each student’s physical and mental capabilities. From the beginning, lessons are catered specifically to each student. Zoey inspires her students by bringing out their strengths and weaknesses in a positive manner. She uses examples from everyday life to enhance the learning process.

 

It is important to Zoey that each of her students becomes a well-rounded musician, not just a piano player. This means not just playing notes on a page but that they express a creative, imaginative aspect to playing music. The important stuff is not just learning technique, but to teach someone to have a skill they can be passionate about. It is also important to have a foundation in order to know how to bend that foundation to musical expression. For this reason, Zoey makes sure that music theory knowledge is at the forefront of lessons.


Zoey Lotter’s performance credits have included The White House, The Kennedy Center, Royal Caribbean International cruise lines and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. She's played at area music venues including The State Theatre, IOTA, Jammin Java, Velvet Lounge, Red Palace, Black Squirrel, and the Recher Theatre. She has taught students aged 5 to 91, from beginning to advanced. Zoey teaches Romantic and Classical styles, Rock, Pop, Blues, and Ragtime. Lessons are one-on-one and are available for 30 or 60 minutes per week. She also provides training in music theory, composition, and electronic music for those interested.

(Zoey is a transgender woman. She is always welcoming of all LGBTQIA+ individuals. She started her teaching career pre-transition. Since she's been teaching for 18+ years, a lot of life has happened since she started! Below, please find some pre-transition pictures of her and her students of years past. She has always had a lifelong passion for music, and for teaching others about the joy it can bring.)
